Media Madayangal

Yes, Iam pissed with the media and again. And pissed with my own self, my fellow friends and relatives and the citizens of this country and the people belonging to this world..

These senseless newschannels are surely upto something. I know that the public memory is short, but it can never be this short. We all knew what happened in Madurai where 3 innocent employees of that particualr newspaper was killed for someone’s political vengeance. We all knew who is responsible for the murder and strongly felt that the guilty should be punished. For the first few days after the incident, almost all the mediapersons were blaming those who were responsible. But from the third day onwards the shift was on the political battle within the TN’s most powerful family. And we public start debating about it who is really the successor of our CM and whether Maran deserves such an action on him forgetting what has happened to the innocent three.

I remember my Geography teacher once telling in the class that in case of any accident, catastrophe or a bomb blast, the media generally reports a lesser number of the dead and injured in order to not panic people. But these days the trend is completely reversed. We know how the media speculates about the number of people who are likely to be dead, therby increasing the havoc.

We all believed or made to believe that the Abhi-Ash wedding is so important in our lives and saw senseless reporters and cameramen were zooming in and out the closed gates of the Big B’s bungalow. It was really funny to see all the newschannels talking so much about the wedding like crazy. I remember seeing in NDTV or CNN IBN a roadside vendor sing for them since they didnt have anything else to show.

There was the SC’s stay on reservation and it was funny again to see how the media reported the judgement. The Supreme Court stayed the order on reservation only because there was no sufficient statistics provided on the number of OBC’s in India.

Sometime back, they felt our ‘Hijab’ was the hot topic and we saw Bharka Dutt hosting a show whether we need Hijab or not. My question is who is she to argue whether we need one or not? The Hijab is something that truly liberates the women in the most modest way. So she brought those Muslim named people who said wore Hijab only to preserve their ‘tradition’ and ‘culture’. There is nothing like ‘tradition’ in Islam and I dont understand why Bharka Dutt is so worried about this. I used to like her earlier for her courage and wit, but after seeing this program, you know the answer.

And the most appalling thing about the media is their power in shaping the ideologies of the people. Two of my Economic professors in college spoke about the things over which the wealthy and powerful countries of the West have monoply. Money, technology, arms, media and I forgot the 5th thing. Of all this, media is the most important. They have the power of making the people think the way the West wants us to think. Westernisation is globalisation, wearing Lee and Tommy is prestigious, and thinking the same way an American thinks, listening to the senseless analysis of useless things and most importantly, branding Muslims as terrorists are some of the greatest contribution of the media in shaping our attitudes.

It was after the 9/11 attack that Muslims are largely being branded as terrorists. Any sane person will know that the US has not given any concrete evidence as to who is responsible for the attack. A movie called “Loose Change” raises a lot of questions with this regard. The same US govt might have carried out this attack in order to blame a few and declare a war on nations like Iraq in order to grab all its wealth and also to make Israel a powerful nation in the Gulf. These are the things so obvious but we are forced to think that Muslims are terrorists because Bush wants us to think that way.

Let there be any attack anywhere in this world, immediately they are traced to the Muslims. Some so called Muslims may be responsible for this, but the way the media portrays them makes us question whether these information are true or not. See what happened in the Hyderabad bomb blast case. Within a day the police was able to trace the ‘terrorists’ and immediately some ‘jehadi’s were held responsible for this. We know how many days, months and years it takes for a criminal case to be solved. But I dont understand how the police can immediately find the culprits in a bomb blast case which is carefully carried out by the real terrorists.

This makes a humble citizen like me worried, because this poses a serious security problem to the entire nation. We fail to find out who the real culprits are and we are also giving them the way to comfortably hide.

It is for us to think…

Hmmm ….. this is something even i have thought about … ironically there is no voice for us …😦 . I cant stand We the people where people like shabana azmi and atheists like Javed Akhtar are asked to represent the ‘liberal’ voice of Islam .. The media is bent upon tarnishing us … and it is a sad reality that anybody who practices his religion is deemed a ‘terrorist’. sports a beard is an ‘extremist’. wears a hijab is a ‘radical’ . My question is do we deserve this ‘marginalisation’ . I say yes. The more we move away from Islam … there is bound to be more fitnah in the days to come…..khair! i have seen loose change … but it looks more like a bundle of apocryphal conspiracy theories rather than a critical analysis of the 9/11 episode. but it does raise a lot of questions about the ‘neutrality’ of media … even ALjazeera seems to have gone the ‘cnn-bbc’ way now. I think its time we came out of our shells and did something about this …. so in future barkha wont come and bad mouth our community … as per her morals .. rakhi sawant wearing a mini skirt is not immodest ..but a Muslimah covering her head in obedience to ALlah’s commands is ‘fundamentally radical’ …. May Allah save us all !

and thinking the same way an American thinks,———

thats coz they have the largest n powerful ad agency in the world….The Hollywood!!!!!

and they are doing a damn good job at their creatives….🙂

  8. Amena Says:

ironically there is no voice for us …

coz most of us pursue the conventional academic courses, very few get into mainstream media…

ther s not a single muslim owned media house, though there are so many shipping giants, businesses, etc in the middle east n all…

with the kind of funds they have, they can easily set up a tv channel or something on similar lines
